So, I am breaking my rules here around advertisements because it is a personal story and I have no other way to discuss cellphones without using brand names. Luckily… my endorsement is for a cell phone manufacturer that is no longer in the business. It is with a heavy heart that I had to finally give up on my dream of Microsoft releasing a new Windows phone. Yeah, yeah, yuk it up you heathens and make fun of me for owning a Windows phone for 3 years. Over those three years, I watched application support dwindle until I basically had a cell phone that also had the internet on it. In the end, I can say this, I’ve used all operating systems and the Windows phone had the smoothest and best usability. Each page was densely packed with each feature you could want to use without having to bounce around to a different screen. But that’s not important, I will always praise the Windows phone as it was a solid little bugger that kept on chugging along.
The important part of this post (other than boosting my blog numbers) is how I am using this phone purchase to unteather. While I was on my old phone, I realized I didn’t need an app for everything (the internet is full of mobile websites). Rather, apps are just a great way to collect even more data about a person and push notifications to them to force engagement. As such, I decided on my new phone to avoid installing any social media applications. That’s right, I am going without social media and it is great! I already have partitioned off my computers so my office computer has never signed into social media before. Now, my phone will be a black hole also. That means, I will only be able to check social media by consciously getting up, walking to my gaming computer, and checking the apps there.
In just one day, I’ve written three blog posts because I have nothing to distract me. So, if you want my advice, get away from social media. It will boost your productivity! And honestly, you really won’t miss it, checking in once a day is all you really need. Unplug, read a book, go for a walk, make out with a stranger (if you are single), and just be bored for a moment.
