State of my Writing: Current Catalogue of Writing
My friend began a project over 200 days ago. His goal is to write a blog post a day about an album he has never listened to before. Which means, he has listened to over 200 albums and written over 200 blog posts this year alone. After he cleared that goal, I thought to myself: what are the number of projects I’ve completed. Fun fact, I haven’t posted up about some of my projects: the screen play I wrote with two of my friends (one being the person who is doing the album blog I mentioned above, we call ourselves the Three Idiots), and a podcast thing (my co-host is also the person who is writing the blog on albums, the occasional guest is the third idiot from the screenplay) we are building a backlog (we haven’t released any yet). So at the time, I have manuscripts, short stories, a podcast, and screenplay. Furthermore, I sometimes get down on myself because I have a lot of things that have been cooked but not sold (aka everything). So, today, I am taking this blog post to flaunt my output (some things are works in progress, and a lot of them are in a forever state of revisions but being submitted to places).

Not a Poet – Hiatus on Some Haikus
I believe that my strength exists in writing novels. The format allows me to really spread my wings as a writer; I am a tangented person, so it is nice not having a limit – other than the story’s needs (I believe in the writer is a medium approach to aesthetics). But, I really enjoy the struggle of writing a haiku. It is the poetry form I choose because of my love for nature and the hardened structure surrounding it. My goal is to be a novelist, mostly because I tend to like writing novels more than writing short stories. However, I write short stories as a sort of experiment – testing the waters to prove that a theory I have works and I can apply it to a novel. Now, I have begun writing short fiction to get published so I can better my chances of finding an agent.
But that is too much about me and not why I am making this post… while cruising around the internet to find some magazines who were looking for some short fiction, I came across a magazine asking for haikus. Normally, I wouldn’t share my haikus because I don’t feel they are all that magical. But then I realized, why not? If someone else found beauty in them, then I should share them (this thought is what started my push to publish haikus on my website). The issue with my submitting my haikus to a magazine… I can’t publish them on the website until they are rejected (or accepted, stay positive… stay positive… stay positive). So, there are some really good ones (that I like) but I can’t share them with you until the submission is over – which means you are going to get the ones I don’t feel are superb. I believe I will be notified of my success or failure in July. If any are accepted, expect me to plug the magazine and then post the haiku three months later.

It has been sometime since I posted on here and I apologize. I’ve been focusing on my short fiction in order to produce some publication credits. Some of the work is out for review, some of them are still in progress, but I decided two weeks ago that the project sitting on my easel needed to see the light of day. It has been there since last year and it was destine to be Manuscript 7 (then a short story got too long, I expanded its scope, and it became Manuscript 7 (a novella)). After prepping a bunch of work and short stories, I decided I needed to get back to my true joy of novel length fiction. So being insane, I took my first vacation day in years to being the new project. Over three days I outlined, cooked, and wrote – rinse and repeat. I am sitting at ten chapters at the writing of this post. I forgot how much more joy I get in writing a novel where I have zero limitations on length. I can let the piece breath and go down rabbit holes. I am excited.

Yesterday, at around 10:41 PM, I put the final period in place to complete the rough draft of BlackBox Enterprises – my fourth book. It was a rough and tumble ride because hundreds of distractions bombarded me for the last thousand pages. Somehow, I have no idea how, I was able to push through and get the manuscript completed. A lot has been on my mind as I get closer to completing my MBA. I won’t bore you with the details of my life. But be prepared, I have great news coming in the near future – it isn’t an agent or a book sale so don’t get excited.

I haven’t written since the 7th of November. Why? That is a valid question considering the manuscript for BlackBox Enterprises was scheduled to be done on Friday the 14th of November. School work has increased, and my MBA takes priority as it is my exit strategy if I don’t make it as an author. This is a sad fact, I have had to take my writing time and donate it to school work/applying to positions. Since my business time is being donated to full time careers, I have not sent any work off to an agent in two or three months. Either way, I have allocated time to work on BlackBox Enterprises starting on Wednesday. The goal is to now finish the manuscript by the thirtieth of November. I will be leaving my family after thanksgiving so I can work uninterrupted in my office.

I am writing this on the 17th of November because life hit me hard. This was three weeks ago, and it was a phenomenal week in terms of writing. I was like a crazy person; no one could interrupt me as I pushed forward at ludicrous speed. That continued into the following week (I will be posting up a little more on that soon). Pots of tea, bags of coffee, and friendships were gobbled up in my insane time frame. My goal was to finish BlackBox Enterprises by November 14th, 2014; I failed. My new deadline for the first draft is the 30th of November.
