Metamorphosis – I am Published

It is my great pleasure to announce that Allure was purchased and published in American Outdoor Magazine.  Which means, I have transformed into a published and paid author.  Allure is their first fiction story to be featured; the editor enjoyed the piece and decided to publish fiction for the first time in the magazine’s history. I still retain the rights to the story, and it can be read online in flash fiction section: click me for Allure. Hopefully, this will be the first domino to fall in my career. Either way, it is great to be able to hold a glossy page with my name besides one of my stories. Here’s to the future!

Also, I know that I have been gone for some time. This lack of updates is because my graduate program is coming to an end, and I – in order to be a productive member of society – need to find a job after graduation. As it is looking, I have an opportunity – a great opportunity – to get back into information technology. I will not stop writing, but I know that I will be losing four hours a day out of my writing time… indefinitely. But, I have some good things coming over the horizon for the rest of you. As I write this, a group of my new flash fiction is being reviewed by Harvard Publishing for a contest, a couple of short stories are under review at McSweeny’s and One Story, and I am collaborating with a local artist to produce a short story combined with a series of paintings for a local book release.

A Whole New Page with Seven New Short Stories

Good news everybody, I have opened up the newest section of the website: Short Story – Flash Fiction.  Why is this good news?  Well, I am finally releasing part of the short story mound I have built up over the last couple of months.  Here you will find riveting stories that take a maximum of five minutes to read, are representative my skill level in July, and are as dense as paragraph written by Kant.  I fell in love with this format, but it is very hard to talk about what I want to talk about in such a short amount of words.  As such, some of the stories are so dense that they become difficult to read.  Fight through and see if you can figure out what I am discussing.  These are my beginning pieces, my next set of flash fiction will be more controlled and focused.  Enjoy!

Changes to the Short Story Section

Some people may have noticed that Gopple’s main landing page has been changed (which would be impressive because I just changed it fifteen minutes ago after drafting this post).  While the original release is still available, I have modified the short story and submitted it to a magazine.  The goal of the short story section was supposed to show my experimentation with writing and growth as a writer.  However, magazines want exclusivity when it comes to publishing a short story and that is why I didn’t post the newly revised version of Gopple for the public.  Once the entire process is done, I will publish the new version of Gopple on the website.  For reference, this process will take between three and four months.  If they accept it, I will update the site with when it will be available in the magazine and when I can publish to my website.  Thank you in advance for understanding.

New Short Story: Time

Posted by on May 13, 2014 in Blog Posts, New Short Story | Fiction, Philosophical Diatribe, Short Story | 0 comments

It has been awhile since I released a short story.  Personally, I find writing a manuscript more fulfilling because of the details I can add to the story.  However, sometimes you get bitten by the bug and decide to write something that pops into your mind.  This piece hit me while I was rabbit sitting my friend’s bunny.  Luckily, I had my computer on me and half a battery.  Two hours later, the rough draft was done.  Another hour, and the second draft was edited.  A couple of emails between me and my editor, and the final piece was complete.  Here is an excerpt from Time my new short story:

“I’m next, John!” John had fallen asleep leaning against a golden pole with red velvet ropes. His new found friend grabbed him by the shoulder and shook him awake.

With a startle, John popped to attention, “What? Where, what, are we there, uh—”

The man interrupted John’s disjunctive questioning, “You dozed off again. You know you don’t have to sleep anymore.”

Another Day | Fiction | 5074

With thanksgiving coming around the corner (when I wrote the first draft of this post, it was 13 minutes to Thanksgiving), I figured it would be a good time to hunker down and finish editing Another Day.  Between bites of salami and crackers, I was able to make my modifications.  This piece is fundamentally different from my normal pieces and was an attempt at something that wasn’t heavily narrated or otherworldly.  My editor agreed, and was very pleased that I threw her this curve-ball.  As always, I wanted to thank her for the wonderful help, and look at that, it is Thanksgiving!  Something something, two birds with one stone.

So, if you need to reprieve from the family, give Another Day a read:

Have a happy Thanksgiving!  Spend it with your family and not in line at a retail store!
