State of My Website and Work

Posted by on May 1, 2013 in Blog Posts | 0 comments

The website has come a long way since the downfall of the original implementation.  What I learned through managing the original website, before it had to be deleted, has been implemented in this current install.  The learning pains from the original instance have allowed me the ability to create a better website.  Not to mention the ability to implement a forum for a future community.  This community will be a writer’s paradise where anyone can post their work and receive constructive criticism.  A place where authors can grow with protection from the heathens that reside on the internet.  Administrators for the website will be authors and editors who understand the trials all others go through on their journey to publication.

Furthermore, I am still working on a piece: Harvesters.  This is the working title.  The piece is the one I begin down in Jackson Falls and is taking longer than expected.  Currently the piece is 12 pages single spaced and wonderful.  I am thoroughly enjoying this project, but I am having issues with my current work load from my Master program.  Thus, I have to postpone this short story. The maximum time frame for the publishing to the website will be three weeks.  Hopefully it will be posted by this weekend, but no matter what, it will be on my website in three weeks.

Obviously I continue to improve my book.  Therefore, I am balancing my master’s program, short story writing, manuscript improvements, and social life.  While the manuscript is complete in theory.  I must continue to improve the piece as I grow as a writer.  As a writer I grow every day.  One day it will be in the hands of an agent or publisher, and I want to be proud of my creation.  Thus, I still spend time working on Primo Capite and The Others.

The Verification System is Down

I received an email from Are You A Human stating that they are having server outages.  This means that the verification system – PlayThru – will work intermittently.  Therefore, the following services may not work: the contact form, comments (which are disabled anyway), and subscribing to the website.

Have a wonderful day.

Back in Town

I am back in town and still working on the short story I promised everyone.  I will be putting on the finishing touches soon.  It is turning into a long piece, but I don’t want to condense the writing because something maybe lost.

Oh, and the trip was wonderful!

I also made some changes to the website: Manuscript section has text in it now, Primo Capite and The Others has its own page, and a new page About the Website has been added.

Have a wonderful day.

I am leaving for a climbing trip this weekend.  The place we are climbing at is in a forest and I will have limited reception.  By limited I should say no reception or internet access for the next three days.  Therefore, I will not respond to emails or phone calls this weekend.  If this causes anyone any inconvenience, I apologize.  When I return I will have a new short story for the website.  There is something special about a forest, pen, and old journal.

Here is one of the formations that I want to climb before I die, it is called Hobo Cave:

Hobo Cave is a rock formation that is designed for trad climbers.

Me standing at the bottom of Hobo Cave on a rock climbing trip from last year.  The roof of the cave isn’t visible because we couldn’t get far enough back to frame the entire picture.

This is the first chapter from an old manuscript that I stopped working on because my writing was not capable of doing the book justice.  I did a brief editing session and was able to get the short story to a place were it can appear on my website.  The piece is short but enjoyable.

Back in Town

I forgot to mention that I was back in town.  There is nothing new in terms of short stories or updates to the website, at this time.  I will hopefully be able to put pen to paper for a short story I have been kicking around in my head, but I must catch up on school work for graduate school.

On a side note the contact form has been working and emails have been reaching me.  Sorry about the delays on responses but thank you for the comments.  It was nice to learn that people were able to send me messages.  I have responded to all of the emails I received.  If you haven’t received a response please try using the contact form again.  Also I have seen some registrations for the website and subscriptions appear.  Good to see some people trickling back in.

As always enjoy the lovely weather and play outside.  The internet will be here when you get back.  Print out one of my pieces and read it under a tree, that’s where I wrote a lot of them.

I am driving to Jackson Fall’s in Shawnee National Forest for a rock climbing trip.  It has been sometime since I have been to the wonderful land of rock, trees, and streams.  I wont be reachable at this time and will be home on Sunday, March 31.  The contact form emails don’t go to my phone, this is to avoid spam, but I will check my email once I am back in town.  Sorry for any inconvenience.

Short Story Additions

Posted by on Mar 27, 2013 in Blog Posts | 0 comments

I have added short stories to the website.  It is important to note that these are lightly – I can’t stress this enough – edited pieces.  While I was creating the excerpts for these posts I noticed some writing that didn’t make me proud.  However, I think it is important to add these because they tack substance to the website.  Due to the fact that I am working on my manuscripts – these are more important that short stories – I haven’t had time to edit the pieces.

I use short stories as a way to keep my mind creative while editing pieces.  So enjoy them but understand that they are raw.  Between my MBA program and my other works I can’t dedicate too much time to the editing processes for short stories.  Otherwise, I would get nothing else done.  Nonetheless, enjoy my foray into some new and different styles of writing.

A prisoner recounts the fateful events that led to his unfortunate situation.  He has been alone for a long time.  However, he finally has been given the gift of a friend.

Proverbial White Whale | Fiction

Excerpt:

Two years, that’s how long I had been stuck in my prison cell without anyone.  I was completely alone.  But, today was a great day.  A man appeared in the cell next to me.  I couldn’t believe it, because I finally had a friend.

The Fantastic Mister Mittens | Fiction

A string of mysterious deaths plague an FBI agent.  His job is to catch a serial killer who has eluded the best of the agency.  Through the long nights his brain has begun to degrade.  Yet, the death and carnage do little to dissuade his appetite to catch the killer.

As a side note: this was an adventure in stream of consciousness.  It was enjoyable to write.  You can be the judge if it is enjoyable to read.

The Fantastic Mister Mittens | Fiction

Excerpt:

I hate my job. This is the third high level murder in the last week. I need my damn coffee and an egg sandwich. Why the hell do all these murders have to happen in the middle of the night? This is not some simple murdering scheme. There are always patterns. Why can’t I find the pattern? There are thirty three high level executives dead. They always have to be hit in the middle of the night and it is always the same explosive.
