Redirect

Today, I will be highlighting RedirectI remember working on this piece because the piece just didn’t seem possible.  It took three rewrites to get it to where it is on the website, and I am not even sure if it truly does what it needs to do for the reader.  Personally, after rereading it, I think it hit home more than I originally thought.  Sometimes, my shorty work appears preachy to me, and I wanted this to be more subtle – I don’t think I hit the subtle parts very well.  However, there is some throwbacks to other works and naming styles.  For more info on the piece, continue reading but it will be semi full of spoilers.  I suggest you read the piece then check out the explanation: Click me for Redirect.

This piece comes out of my constant attempts to write stream of consciousness in my own style.  To be fair, I haven’t read much stream of consciousness so it always ends up being a little peculiar.  The first piece I ever wrote as stream of consciousness was The Fantastic Mr. Mittens.  Between these two pieces is a lot of work, and I would argue this one is more comprehensible.  The major tenant that drove me to finally write Redirect – it had been semi-outlined in a journal for a month – was when I began to grow disturbed by the news people were sharing on social media and what I was reading in newspapers.  It became clear – to me – that my generation was more likely to be informed by fake articles that spread across social media than legitimate news articles.  When clickbait overrides the issues that happen in various countries, I knew I had to write this piece even if it failed as a story.
